Sewing Kit HD 1.02 Coming!
I have submitted another update for Sewing Kit HD – this one has fixes for:
Ability to change/add colors to the color list
Black screen for iPod Touches
Clearing information when moving to look at pictures
Squeezed popup for projects on iPads
Hopefully Apple will review it quickly and get it out there for folks that have found these issues!

Thank you! I’ve tried everything possible with my Touch, and still have the black screen. I’ll be so happy to get the update!
Ohh, looking foreward to that. The app also just closed when i tried to change the size of a pattern, I’ve tried it a few times but it’s just not possible. Does this fix this problem as well?
I also haven’t found a way to yet to delete a complete pattern entry. Is there any way to do so?
Thanks!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this app!!! (inspirations and projects are a super bonus)
For future updates, please consider:
Allowing sort (pattern number or category) within a pattern company.
Allowing backups to Dropbox or Evernote
It seems that the picture viewer only looks within the first pattern company (maybe I’m overlooking something)
I am now able to load the program on my iPod Touch. The first time I opened it, I was able to see all of the patterns. However, now when I open it, I can only scroll through the first 20 patterns. After that, the screen freezes, and then the program crashes and closes. If I jump to a different pattern company, I am again only able to scroll through a few patterns, and it closes—or it closes before it even gets to the selected pattern company. I have even tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and copying the information from my iPad to the iPod Touch. I still am unable to see any more than the first few patterns.
I am having a problem importing from the original program. At the opening screen it shows patterns fabrics etc loading. As the last info loads the app closes. Does anyone have a solution? Love the original can’t wait to use the new yd version
Didn’t the patterns used to be in alphabetical order? I really wish they were when you are looking at the patterns by brand. Now it is difficult to tell if I already own a particular pattern, and it is difficult to find a pattern if I know the number.
I Just bought this and was able to get a few things put in there, even with it crashing, but now all it does is crash all the time and I cat put anything new in it at al,l or browse what I was able to put in initially. Please help with this. This app costs a lot of money compaired to all the others and right now it is useless to me.
I do love this app – when it works
It crashes a lot when I try to enter patterns, or just freezes up and I have close it and start over.
But, when it works it’s awesome! I wish I knew what made it work sometimes, and not work other times!
I would love this app if it didn’t crash constantly. Pattern scrolling is SLOW. I just entered some of my patterns and it took all afternoon. I agree that this was a lot of money to have this happen all the time. Also, are you working on a way to integrate Ipad/Iphone so I won’t have to enter all my information twice? I really want to use this program, because it seems awesome, please fix
Information no longer downloads for Kwik patterns. I know they have recently merged with mcall patterns. Can this be fixed in the next update.
It’s Martin
I just purchased HD but not finding it useful if it doesn’t load the back page of the pattern in also. That is the part i need when i fabric shop. Also – would be great to be able to sort the types into files. I have hundreds of patterns to fish through to find a particular project…..
The most important concern I have though is the view of the back of the pattern…if that can’t be corrected I see no value in this app.
I never got all of my projects to import from the old version, so I have been entering them manually. Scrolling through the pattern list is SLOW!!! Also, the app crashes when I scan notions. For some it tells me that the UPC is not available, but for all others, the app just crashes. Threads worked great though. Any thoughts??
I just bought app for iPad and am ready to try it. Couple questions…can I share with iPhone and can I back it up?
I continue to having a problem importing from the original program. At the opening screen it shows patterns fabrics etc loading. As the last info loads the app closes. Does anyone have a solution? Love the original can’t wait to use the new HD version. After attempting to import from Sewing Kit now I cannot use the HD version – both ipad and iphone – at all since each time I start the app the import begins and then the app shuts down. Please, please provide a solution. SewingKit is my most used app and want to be able to use the HD version
I just purchased this app and thought it would be wonderful but it crashes when I try to upload a book. It recognizes the book, asks if I want to store it then I say ok and it closes the app without saving anything. I’m new qto apple and iPad so not sure what to do. Help
Debbie,
I’m sorry the app is crashing when scanning a book. You can type in the book name instead of scanning the bar code. In the mean time I will look into the bug and see what I can do for a future release.

Any chance of another update? I cannot view my full inventory of patterns on either my iPad or my iPod Touch without it crashing. It is so frustrating. I’m almost tempted to go back to the old (not HD) version, but since I spent so much money on this one, I’d really like to see it work as advertised. Please let us know you are at least aware that many of us are still having issues and that you are working on a solution.
AGREE– (I just purchased HD but not finding it useful if it doesn’t load the back page of the pattern in also. That is the part i need when i fabric shop.)
ABSOLUTELY NEED the view of the back of the pattern…if not fixed than the advertisement I saw that showed these specs. falsely led me to buy and I wasted my money. THIS IS WHY I SPENT $8.99 after I had already bought the $4.99 version! Dont buy this app. If you want it for shopping for your fabrics ECT!!!!!!!!
Yes the back of the pattern info in an update…WHEN is it coming? Hope it Is Going to fix the black screen, which has only just started happening to me.
I have Sewing Kit Lt and think it has great potential once bugs are taken care of.
I, too, would like the back page of patterns with statistics.
I have iTouch and would appreciate the rotate ability as well as a print function.,
Will be keeping an eye out for future updates and eventually plan to get the full version,
Carolyn
Tips for getting more info into Sewing Kit (believe me, I’ve got a lot in the app):
For pattern backs, image from pattern companies not accessible from the app, photos of fabrics from an online vendor, I’ve found two methods that work well.
1. On your iDevice, browse to the pattern or fabric on the company’s website. Touch and hold the image, chart, whatever. If you get the “save image” popup, use that to save to the Photos.
2. If the yardage chart or whatever is text instead, then zoom in a little closer and grab a screenshot (hold the power and home button until the screen winks), which is saved to Photos.
You can crop the images, if needed, then add to SewingKit. Depending on the website, the images might be a little fuzzy, but, personally I don’t care. It’s fast and easy.
The update came out in March It is now JUNE, and I am still not able to use Sewing Kit on either my iPad nor my iPod Touch. Is there another update any time soon? Is there even an update in the works? If not, I would certainly think you should be offering a refund to those of us who spent good money for something we are not able to use!
Karen,
There is another update waiting for review with Apple, but it is only to allow older devices to use the app. Im sorry the app isn’t working correctly. When we had a short email conversation in March, I had asked a couple of questions to try and understand more detail about the issue, but I never got a response.
This is what I had asked:
If the app is that unusable for you, then Apple can provide refunds for those who are unhappy with their purchases, and I’m truly sorry it came to that.

I do not remember ever seeing that question. If I look in iTunes I only have the Sewing_Kit_HD.sqlite listed in the file sharing. I no longer have the original sewing kit on either devise. Is there any hope?
Karen – no problem on not seeing the email.
I’ll send you an email to continue the thread.

I just purchased this app and I’m unable to take pictures of the patterns ot use the scan feature. I’m using a new ipod touch. the message is Sorry This device seems to have a fixed focus camera. Scanning won’t work with that sew up.
For some reason my request a few days ago seeking help synching my iPad with my iPhone re sewing kit HDwas deleted. I followed your advise re synching on another page – I am sorry but that does not seem to work from a Mac in iTunes. Your app shows up in iTunes but it will not transfer the information as to patterns I entered on the app on my iPad. IOW I would have to re enter all patterns separately on my iPhone. All other apps I have synch perfectly – why is there a glitch with your app?
Hello. I’m using Sewing Kit HD for couple of months. This could be great application if it would not contain so many bugs… It looks to me that it even was not tested before release… I waited for update all these months but it looks that noone is going to fix these issues. I like the applicatio and I don’t want to get refund from Apple, I just wanted to get it working properly. I suppose I’ve paid for that.
Please find below short list of most irritave issues:
1. Application crashes on attempt to save a photo. Reproduces on every 4-5 photo saving (any menu item).
Also every 3-4 photo which I make by camera is saved as empty. And it takes around 6-8-10 tries to make and save a photo with a picture.
2. Periodically app crashes at project saving, especially when I set size and category (Project menu item)
Because of these issues it takes around 30-40 min to save 2-3 projects. I pretty sure that it should take much less time, don’t you think so?
3. Owfull performance. I have around 25-30 projects and it takes 60-90 seconds to open Projects menu. But you know, 25 is not so big number… Even when I exit opened project it takes around 10-15 seconds. So almost every action in the applictaion takes not less then 10 seconds. And I even don’t talk here about time to save project… I pretty sure that you need to optimize your performance.
I use iPhone 4, 32gb, iOS 5.1.
Dear developers, could you please let me know if there is a chance to have these issues fixed?
May be you can try use some beta-testers or made price cheaper for first months after release while you are still fixing issues? BTW, did you try to save at least 10 projects (with different source of images – downloaded and photo from camera and from disk), add 10 fabrics (with photo) and link them, and then to play some time with the application?
Will very appreciate your reply with comments on these issues.
Thank you,
Iryna
Iryna,
Thank you for your note. I am working on fixes for the speed issues. For the photos, try turning off your phone and turning it back on – that should fix the issue.
I do test the app before submitting it, and did not have these problems, or I would not have submitted it.
I appreciate your patience as I work to fix the problems.

I would like to know what files are listed in iTunes for this HD version both for iPad and iPhone. Both of my devices start the import when I open them. Even though I have over 300 patterns entered I am almost willing to to enter them manually but that is not an option since import begins and each app closes after import
I have had this app for a couple of months now, and have been waiting patiently for a fix to make it usable. I just downloaded the newest update, and now when I try to go into the pattern sections the app freezes while it is trying to ‘verify the size of images’.
When I only had 10 patterns entered into the app I had no problem scrolling through them without freezes and crashes. I think I now have about 30 patterns entered. Before this newest fix, I had a work around to avoid the freezes/crashes. I would use the search to narrow down the list of patterns to about 5 or so. It was still extremely slow, but Ihad very few crashes that way. Of course, I could not look through all of my patterns, instead having to know which one I was looking for, or which type. This was certainly very clunky.
Since the newest update, as soon as I go into pattern section, it starts with the verifying message and freezes before I can try to do anything with the patterns. I used to work as a QA tester, and have tried using that same approach to figure out what is wrong with this app.
-I found that the app works fairly well when no info is entered.
-The app will still work well with with low amounts entered into whatever section you are trying to use. For example I had no/few crashes in the pattern section when I had 1-10 patterns entered. Although the app did quite a bit slower at this point.
-The problem for me happened when I had entered more than 10 patterns and tried to scroll through them. This resulted in crashes every single time. I did work around this by doing the search first so as to limit the number of patterns that were coming up to less than 10. Then I could scroll through with no crashes.
-I’m not sure if I will be able to find a way to work around the new update, as now I am unable to get past the verifying message of the 2nd pattern company (McCalls for me) for the images.
I really think this is a brilliant app and hope that more fixes are implemented to make it usable. Sorry this was so long, but hopefully my experience with the app may help you in further testing.
I just bought Sewing Kit for my ipad. it froze up on the first pattern bar code i tried scanning, and now i can’t use the app. it is stuck “looking up product” and no icons work. What can i do to get it working again?
thx
Susan,
If you double click on the home button of your phone, find Sewing Kit, hold down on it and then press the little red X, it will quit. Then when you re-run it, it should be ok again. Make sure you are doing this on the lower bar of the screen, not the app icon on the main screen – that would delete it.

The hd version still will not accept the import of the original app. I can enter individual patterns projects etc and the scan feature works fine just no import. I have over 300 patterns in the original. Is it possible that the import file is too large to import?
I now have a new problem. Sewing Kid HD still will not import my SK import. I just tried it again and since the import does not work I went to the HomeScreen to have the app quit, it is not on the home screen only the original version is there. Is there a new way to make the HD version quit so the import stops?
How can I delete an entry that I put in twice?
Sandy,
Swipe from left to right across the entry in the list of items.
